I found these old notes and offer them as one of the sources of the story of Miss Gray being married to Ignatius Flowers, you can take these for fact or fiction, I have no idea myself. They came from a study conducted for Mr Paul V. Draughn of Hattiesburg, Ms and Mr. Alan T. Calhoun of Tryon NC. by Leonardo Andren of Columbia SC. The NC data was compiled and completed the Feast day of St. Ignatius 1945 and contains 17 pages.
"Draughn family tradition in Miss..."Alice Flowers was the daughter of a Mr. Flowers whose wife was a Miss Grey. He was of Engish ancestry and his wife was of Irish ancestry. Their daughter had wed Washington Cade who was a schoolmaster in Fayetteville District NC.... Alice Flowers Cade died soon after her first child, a daughter, was born. This young daughter was reared by a Flowers uncle who brought her to Miss. Where she wed and died. Many of the older relatives of Draughn family recall her and had taken notes from what she used to tell them of her family."
Item 37, page 7
"Paul V. Draughn when he engaged me to go to NC to make this research for him on his various lines, sent to me all that he knew of the FLOWERS line and this was given to him by an aged aunt of his who in her lifetime had known SUSAN FLOWERS CADE POPE, the only child of ALICE FLOWERS whom they thought came from Robeson Co. NC... Aunt Maria Draughn did not know the name of the father of ALICE FLOWERS but she knew the name of her mother was Susan Grey for Aunt Maria's grandmother, Susan Cade Pope was named for Susan Gray Flowers....Aunt Maria Draughn was the granddaughter of SUSAN CADE POPE and knew her personally."
