This Caveat would seem to point to the name having been Flower originally, as were most of the English Flower/Flowers/Floer surnames.I'm doing research on Thomas Flowers of Maryland, and in doing my research I have come across a William Flower of St. Marys County. His family includes William (m. Elizabeth, d. 1743), sons Thomas and Charles Holt. They are later found in records of the Eastern Shore as well, in Somerset County. I have done a little snooping as it were into the background of the family. They are Roman Catholic and are found in records with a family named Goldsberry. One of the names in the Goldsberry family is Ignatius if memory serves. Ignatius is often a Roman Catholic name. This Goldsberry family seems to be unrelated to the noted Goldsboroughs of the Eastern Shore.I have always thought that this might be a good avenue for research into the background of your Ignatius, as tradition says that he was born in Dorchester Co., MD.
