Flot Family Genealogy Forum

Teresa, I believe that you are quite right. There are Flottmanns, Flothmanns, Floethmanns
and some have shortened the name by omitting the "mann" In the end, I believe all these families are related and the difference in spelling was influenced by localities and the dialect of pronouncing the name. In the early days common folks did not know how to write, and the Priest just put down their names as he "heard them pronounced" I have extensive collection of data on these families from Germany and some from Hungary. I would be interested if you could go back a couple of generations on your Daniel Flot, to see if we might be able to connect you to one of many Flothmann/Flottmann lines. Do you know which town Daniel was born in? Name of his parents?
Please let me know when you find out!
Good luck, and best regards, Tibor.
