For the past some 50 years, I have searched for information on the ancestry of WILLIAM FLOOD, born ca. 1775 in Virginia, and died after October 1847, presumably in Edgar Co., Illinois, or in Iowa or Missouri. While much information has been found on his descendants, the identify of his parents, a probable first wife, and the date/place of his death remain to be documented, and continue to be a matter of much speculation, particulary pointing to a connection to the FLOOD clan in colonial Buckingham Co., VA. One of his descendants has submitted a sample of his DNA to the Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation, Salt Lake City, UT, and is awaiting the results of the analysis. Hopefully, the report he receives will be useful in further genealogical research. Below is a partial documentary summary of those records pertaining to WILLIAM FLOOD: DOCUMENTARY CHRONOLOGY 1805 Dec 15. William Flood signs Petition of Dearborn County, Indiana Territory. It is a petition of purchasers of land, settled and intending to settle, on that part of the Indiana Territory, west of Ohio, and east of the boundary line running from the mouth of Kentucky river. The petitioners state that they are at a distance of nearly 200 miles from the seat of government, that the intermediate space is a wilderness occupied only by Indians and likely for many years to remain unoccupied by any other persons. Note: this land is in Symmes Twp., Edgar Co., Illinois. No trace of William Flood and his wife, Hannah, has been found after 14 Oct 1847. It is believed that they migrated to Iowa or Missouri, or even California with one or more of their children. Since they can't be found in any 1850 Federal census index, it is presumed that they were both deceased by 1850. Notify Administrator about this message?
