My husband's GG Grandfather, Thomas Flood left County Donegal, Ireland circa 1845. The exact townland he came from is not known at this time. There is evidence which points to an area around the town land called Petticoe. ( I can only find Petticoe on mapquest.) This area is still the home of many Flood's, the graveyards of this area are filled with tombstones with the Flood name on them. The town square has a statue erected in tribute to Patrick Flood, one of the first men to raise his gun to the British oppressors in 1922. The exodus from Ireland was due to the great famine of 1840-1850. Thomas immigrated to Scotland in 1845, met and married Jane McCormick (birthplace Donegal,Ireland), and had nine children, Thomas,Edward,Charles,John,George,Patrick Henry, James,Ann,Alice.John Flood, the above son of Thomas and Jane McCormick was the one who died in the Cherry Mine Disaster on November 13, 1909 in Cherry,Illinois, if that helps any. It is possible that some of the people you mention could be brothers and sisters or cousins of my GG grandfather Thomas from Donegal. If you think we have a connection, I have more info on my husband's family and he would be happy to share it with you. He would like to know any info you have also if there is a connection.
