Adelaine Flood married Job Carter on Dec. 27 1817 amherst co VA. My husband is descended from this couple through their daughter Mary Ann Carter who married Edwin Mays in Amherst Co in 1837. Adelaine, through family history, is said to be the daughter of John Flood. There is a marriage record for a John Flood who married a Martha Carter in Amherst on Sep 12 1800, and he appears to be her father. There is a will in Amherst for a John Flood dated Oct 14 1842 and probated Jan 16 1843. In it he mentions his wife Martha, sons Peter, Nelson D., Daniel, Abraham C. and John C., daughters Adeline Burks, Mary Hill, Nancy C. Burks. At the writing of this will, Daniel Flood was deceased. Martha Flood is deceased by Apr 19 1859, as noted in an administrator's accounting.
Job Carter appears to have died around 1827, when there is mention of his daughter needing a guardian. Adeline then seems to have married again to a Burks. Adaline or sister Nancy married Charles M. Burks.
Job Carter was the son of Peter Carter who married Betsy Sandidge. I need to do some research, but suspect Martha Carter Flood may have been a sister to Job, or a cousin.
There is mention of a John H. Fuqua certifiying accounts of John Flood's probate. Does anyone know this John Flood's ancestry? I would appreciate any leads. Thanks.
