Jane Flintoff from Birkby by Northallerton, Yorkshire is one of my ancestors.
b.28 Feb, 1754Birkby by Northallerton
m.William Humphrey 24 May 1776 Deighton by Northallerton
d.3 May, 1828 Middle Sackville, New Brunswick, Canada.
Her parents were Richard Flintoff and Ann Christon, and she had several brothers and sisters.Richard Flintoff was a blacksmith. There was a fire in the parish and the church was destroyed in the 1750's so the records are not complete.Birkby Parish Records, as they were filmed, only go back far enough to include Richard's generation. There were two Christon's noted with a marriage that would fit the right time span to be Ann's parents, but there is no record of Ann's birth as proof.
There are a total of two generations of Flintoffos in the entire parish record.I have yet to check the Bishop's records.
On the other hand, there are several Flintoffs listed in the Northallerton parish records and these go back as far as 1554.The ink is not well preserved.Between the Latin and the penmanship of "Friar Kaye", it is not easy to read.I have a copy of the microfilm for about one more month, if you are interested, I will post what I find.
