Hi Leslie,

Sorry I didn't get back to you. I didn't get notified of your post. I have a day off and was following up on my weekend mail and saw your letter.

I know the Lapham name is tricky. I had one lady write and tell me her ancestors said the Lapham name was French and they had spelled it "La Flamme". They had never been able to find family members. So "Lapin" isn't too bad at all. I'd love any info you have on Mary Ann Flint's siblings and parents, grandparents etc..

I know that one of Mary Ann Flint's children, Ann married Charles Mason and his brother was a famous poet in the U.S.. According to the Mason family info. Walt Mason was actually quite well known in his day, and was the first poet laureate of Kansas. Maybe that was the connection. This Walt Mason would have been around at the time of Samuel Clements. Achilles Augustus Philologus Lapham changed his name to Augustus P. Lapham when he went to the Western U.S.. (I think I would have changed it too)I don't see any Maggie, Olivia or Keith in the Laphams. There are a few named "Keel", short for Achilles. I never heard of such screwed up names. They were always called by nicknames or shortened names as well. (Adolphus was Dolph) They never seemed to register births, deaths etc.. There are several buried in a little local cemetery, according to their obituaries but they're not registered nor have tombstones. They also seemed to move at a drop of a hat. These are my husband's relatives and we have cursed them many times.

I find the Flint info. very interesting. Their connection with the early Mill industry is quite fascinating. They must have been quite industrious.

My daughter is going to university in Kingston. She has spent her summers there working on a painting crew at the school. We have been down to vist several times and love the the city and all the interesting things to do. Love that Stauffer library genealogy section as well!! I better go for now. Houswork is calling.
Best regards,
Janis
