The York Sunbury Historical Society has been collecting records and artefacts pertaining to the history of central New Brunswick (Canada) since 1932. It was decided in 1968 that the vast archival collection that they had would best be stored in the Provincial Archives of New Brunswick (PANB) temperature controlled storage facility; a safer environment for such a valuable collection.

Over the course of several years, the archival collection was sorted, organized and catalogued into the MC300 Finding Aid, has been added to over the years and continues to grow.

There is so much in this collection but few people know it exists. However, if you are researching Fredericton or a topic pertaining to central New Brunswick then there is a good chance there is something in there that would be of use. The most up-to-date version is available to download in PDF format from the York Sunbury Museum website but over time, we would like to cut and paste interesting collection descriptions to the blog to bring them out of the finding aid and into cyberspace. I hope that this will help researchers/genealogists who donít normally visit the PANB find sources and records pertaining to their topic/family.

The collection contains several documents pertaining to Thomas Flewelling and his wife Elizabeth who settled at Oak Point, Kings County (New Brunswick Canada), in 1785. They purchased 880 acres of land from Kemble. Thomas died sometime after 1807 and left four sons: Adam (1761-1816) married Annie Clark; Thomas (1779-1816) married Hanna ?, Jane Bulyea, and Elizabeth Peters; Caleb (1774-1858) married Mary Brittain; and Enos (? Ė 1830) married Margaret Ann Bulyea.

This collection contains a large number of legal documents, receipts, accounts, and correspondence. A detailed listing can be found on the York Sunbury Museum blog (http://yorksunburymuseum.wordpress.com/2009/12/22/whelpley-collection/).

I hope you find them helpful in your research!
