Thank you Mr. Murray,
You are so right re:Mekeel have variuos spellings and patronomyic switches.
Yes indeed they were or many were Loyalists and many were in New Brunswick.
The line began with Michiel Van Kortright/Kortjik and Courtright among the main 3 families, which depended on the father, at first Jan and Michiel, the locallity they settled in and the first US brotheer from which they had descended.
Marvin Coutright has an excellent we site: put Mid_Court in the web browser and it will get you there. Also I believe this site if searched under Sebasian e Cortes will get you to his site as he and Jean Boucher have done the first in depth report of our origins on the web that I have found.
Tha name IS Dutch but French, English and Sapanish(Navare, Spain) back to the late 1500s and includes many royals from England, Arargon, Flanders, France Belgium and goes back to Wm the Conquerer or Charlemagne.
But the history is traceable to Welsh and Scottish roots in the 7thC to 9thC at least following my mothers maternal and paternal side.
You brought additionalinformation to light and thank you so much!
All the Best!
