What was the close relationship between King & Loderick Ellen? Loderick was a son of Howell Flewellen & grandson of William Flewellen. I can send you more if you are interested. The Flewellens came from Prince George County & Charles City, County, VA, to Halifax Co, NC. Some moved over to Nash County. Most of the Flewellens moved on to Warren Co, Ga, but some, like Loderick, stayed in NC. This branch gradually shortened the name to Ellen. Llewellyn is a Welsh name and for a long time they did not have surnames. Llewellyn ap Gruffyd was Llewellyn, the son of Gruffyd. Gradually the Welsh began to acquire surnames and "ap Llewellyn" became Flewellen or one of the variants like Fluellen or Flewellyn. This is like Lloyd and Floyd.
