Dr. Calvin I. Fletcher (b. 1859) was the youngest child of Calvin Fletcher, Jr. and Emily Beeler Fletcher and the Grandson of Calvin Fletcher, all of Indianapolis.Calvin Fletcher was instrumental in the founding of Indianapolis and kept a diary that has been published by the Indiana Historical Society. It mentions Calvin I.'s birth, but Calvin died in 1866 when Calvin I was only 7 and there is no mention of his painting. In a postscript to the diary done by the person that compiled it, there is a brief mention that Calvin I. died in 1913 while climbing in Glacier National Park, but no mention of painting. He is buried in Crown Hill Cemetary in Indianapolis.Perhaps the Indiana Historical Society, 450 West Ohio Street, Indianapolis 46202-3269, may have additional information. The archives of the local papers would also be a source of infor but would probably require a visit to Indianapolis.
