Flesher Family reunion 2005, Topeka KS
This is to inform you of the Flesher Family Reunion, which is held in a different U.S. location, every other year. We welcome Fleshers of any spelling. Our line was originally spelled Fleischer, and some descendants of the same group spell their name Fleisher. In 2003, the reunion was held in Fayette Co OH, as several of the Flesher family members moved there, or to nearby OH counties, from VA/WVA. This year, the reunion is to be held June 24-26, in Topeka, KS, and nearby Jackson Co., as members of the William Seibert Flesher family lived in that county for a number of years, moving there from MO. A separate William A. Fleischer family lived in Jackson Co also. Wilson Flesher also lived there briefly.
We already have Flesher descendants coming from MO, CO, TN, LA, and OK, as of this date. Most of them do not descend from the Jackson Co KS families.
Several motels are located in the SW Topeka area where we will meet. Some of us have reservations at Motel 6, 1224 SW Wanamaker in Topeka, phone 785-273-0137. We strongly urge, because of the auto races in Topeka, if you are interested in the reunion, that you make your reservations early, as the motels may fill up.
Our plans for the reunion:
Friday evening, 24th, 5-7 pm, dinner at Golden Corral, 1601 SW Wanamaker Rd, S of I-470, phone 785-273-5354. This will be a get acquainted session.
Saturday morning, 25th, breakfast at 8:30am at Cracker Barrel, 1421 SW Ashworth Place, phone 785-273-3393.
From there, we will meet at the KS state archives building, for a brief (9:30 to 10:30) history of the Flesher family who settled in Jackson Co. (exit 357 in West Topeka. Turn North; enter the roundabout and follow the signs directing you West.) We will then caravan to the Hoyt Cemetery in Jackson Co, where many of the William Seibert Flesher family, and the W.A. Fleischer family are buried.
We have reservations for lunch at S&A’s downtown Café in Holton KS. After lunch, we will meet at Holton Museum, for history of Jackson Co and tour. (small fee or donation) If time allows, we will perhaps visit South Cedar cemetery, or the Victorian House in Holton. From 5:30 to 7:00pm, we plan to have our evening meal at Coyote Canyon in Topeka, 1251 SW Ashworth Place, phone 785-273-5534.
Sunday morning, 26th, 8:00am, we will meet at IHOP, 1731 SW Wanamaker.
Raymond Clyde Flesher of CO., publisher of a quarterly newsletter, Flesher Family Redwood, will be at this year’s reunion. If you have family group sheets you would like to share, I know he would like to have your family data, and perhaps will be able to help you find your family’s roots. Please join us for any or all of the reunion activities. The only cost is your personal expenses.
A web page has been set up with details about the reunion, plus photos of some of the Flesher family from Jackson Co KS. Write or email, if you are interested. http://www.geocities.com/flesher05reunion/http://www.geocities.com/flesher05reunion/
