My great grandmother Laura Drain/Drane (born: 8/4/1880)was orphaned when she was just a few months old. A couple by the last name of Carothers adopted/fostered her in Greenville, Green County, PA when she was an infant. She had an older brother. The Carothers moved to Minnesota for a short time and then moved back to eastern Ohio. I believe they followed the railroad work. In 1896/1897 Laura married William Flenniken/Flannigan. He was born about 1850/1855. The were living in Trumbull County, Ohio when my grandfather was born - Joseph Francis Flenniken/Flannigan on December 27, 1897. When Joseph was an infant his father William was killed in a train accident. I have gathered this information from a signed affadavit that my grandfather was born so he could collect social security and from Laura's obituary. After William's death Laura answered an ad for a wet nurse in Man Siding, Clare County, Michigan. Her adopted parents took her by covered wagon to Clare County, MI. In 1902 she married Wesley Boulton (the man that placed the ad) and together they had six more children. Wesley Boulton died in 1912 and Laura married Nathan Brown. Laura died in 1916 in Man Siding, Clare County, Michigan at the age of 36 years. She is buried in Maple Grove Cemetery, Harrison, Clare County, Michigan. Since William was so much older than Laura when they married I thought maybe William was widowed or divorced when he married Laura. Research has been difficult because the courthouse in Trumbull County burned down in the early 1900's. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!
