Hi, A very kind person by the surname of POTTS forwarded a message for us to go to the book " An Illustrated History of Union and Wallowa Counties- State of Oregan"-1902- pages 580 and 581 to find a obit of sorts about our John FLEMING. It is our John FLEMING but does not give reasoning for death. Death occured 29 April 1895, his burial is in Oddfellow's & Mason's cemetery in Joseph, Oregan. It is a wonderful article and we are very appreciative to Mr. Potts's for his time and effort in researching and retrieving it for us. We would like to have more information than what the article does give us though. Is there more information out there that someone can help us find, death certificate, maybe a newspaper article or something else? Would love to have photo of headstone if that can be found for family records. Thank-you for helping us we really appreciate all of your kindness! John FLEMING's wife was Elizabeth they married 23 December 1884 in unknown place-it is not stated in story and I have no record of it. They had the following children: Thomas W., Herbert L., Homer R., and Harriet E. FLEMING. This was my original posting: We have been told about a John FLEMING in the Fleming family of Illinois that went to Oregan to live with his family. Sometime between 1890-1910 era. What is said to have happened was that John purchased a cow that did not want to live at his house. It kept going back to the former owners home. We have been told that john would retrieve the cow and after several of these retrievals the former owner got mad and shot John FLEMING in the back and killed him. We have no idea if this is the true story or not but would like a newspaper article or an obit to find out what did happen to him. We do not know exactly where this all took place as this was all written in a journal by a young man in the family many years ago. Thanks for your help. Notify Administrator about this message?
