All that I've heard so far is that the Fleer family came from France. They are supposed to fled from France during the chase of the Hugeunots.

It seems that many Hugeunots settled down in Westphalia, Germany, and it is true that you can find a lot of people named Fleer in the region of Westphalia; significantly more than in other parts of Germany.

Has anyone some informaton which fits to this rumours?
