Can anyone help me understand why Nicholas Fleenor granted land to Lucinda E(dwards) Carter in Monroe, IN in 1849?

IN. She is my ggg-grandmother and was married to William Carter b. 10 Jan 1783 VA, m. 14 Nov 1804 Patrick Co, VA, d. 29 Dec 1874 Monroe Co, IN.
