Martha,I will give you a timeline of what I have found about Alexander and Abigail Tippens Flanagan. In the 1830 Census they were newlyweds living in Gwynnette Co. Georgia.(The part of Jackson Co. GA that was made into Gwynnette Co.) They were married in 1829. In 1840 they were living in Pontotoc Co. Miss. according to Census Records. In the 1850 Census they were living in Lafayette Co., Mississippi. They had 6 children by then: Susan, Elizabeth, Richard, William, Ellender, and Edward. In 1860, they are in Burleson Co. Texas according to the Texas Agricultural Census.
According to the Bible Records Alexander had a brother named S.C. Flanagan who was born April 30, 1814.
Alexander's son Richard J. Flanagan b. 1840 married Mary Summers and did not stay in Texas. He later returned to Yalobousha Co. Miss. where he died in 1920.
Another son William married Marietta Phillips in Tippah Co., Miss.
Another son Edward is also listed as Edmond.I do not know why.
J.C. Flanagan's initials stands for James Cicero.
There were also some Newman's in Burleson Co., TX as they
married into my Wallin family.
My thoughts were maybe he was a son ofElijah Paul Flanagan from Jackson Co. GA. as the family shares so many of the same names.I have no proof, however.
Hopefully more research will help us, and maybe the information I wrote down will help us tie they two men together.
Best regards,
Jeanette
