Hi Sharon!
I'm sure I've probably typed the following words a hundred times, or something similar, but the sentiment still remains true, "I'm always happy to hear from another 'new' cousin!"
Sounds like you had a really great trip to Snowflake, Arizona! As to my self, no I've not made it out that way to see the town or any of the old home places in the area. It's one of the locations on my "wish list."
A home of another of my ancestors, my g-g-g-g-grandfather SAMUEL CURTIS, SR. (1751-1846, has been turned into a "bed and breakfast too, and I'm hoping to visit it too. Well, actually, I should say that it is his "town home" in Demopolis, Alabama which I've heard has been turned into a "bed & breakfast," not his main plantation home, but I've not make it to it yet either. The "town home" is on my "wish list of places to visit" too! (Samuel's plantation home at Old Springhill, Alabama survived the Civil War only to burn down a few years later in the 1870's. Supposedly, a member of the family who was living in the plantation home at the time of the fire rebuilt the home and designed it to look just like Samuel's home, so it's almost like being able to see his home! <grin> Back in 2003 I actually had plans to visit the Curtis home in the summer of 2004 and to make it through the Arizona country in the summer of 2005, but I had to cancel both trips for the present, but look forward to making both journeys at a future date, the Lord willing!
Your message "woke me up" about the FLAKE family too! I need to check around and see if any of the "Flake" surname cousins have become involved with one of the DNA groups and learned if whether, or not, our line is closely related to the line of ROBERT FLAKE of Virginia who died intestate and is a possible ancestor of our SAMUEL FLAKE.
Again, always a pleasure to hear from yet another cousin! That never gets old!
