I was aware that Jonathan Grant did some survey work also. I have a little more information on him, but it may be what you already have also.

In regards to the nine children of Samuel and Betsy Smith Flack:

Robert Flack married Euphemia's little sister.

Richard Flack married Rebecca Futhey, sister of his younger half brother's wife. John Van Buren Flack Sr.'s second wife was Sophronia Futhey. Moved to Adams County, Illinois about 1840.

Jenny Flack married Parkinson Grant (who is the aunt who raised J.V.B. Flack Jr.)

James Flack who married Jane Grant.

Isabell Flack who married Phillip Yauger.

Thomas Flack married - don't have it handy - but he moved to Poweshiek County, Iowa.

Mary Flack who married Robert Caldwell.

William Flack who married Margaret Grant.

Samuel Flack who died in youth.

As for the children born to Samuel Flack and Euphemia Bever Flack, Evalin Flack married Joel Sloniger - they moved to Adams County, Illinois.

John Van Buren Flack and wife Sophronia moved to Adams County, Illinois. So did George Flack.

Skiles Flack apparently married twice and I know no more of him after 1848.

Euphemia Bever Flack also lived with her son John Van Buren Flack Jr. in Adams County, Illinois. She probably moved about staying with one child then another. As I wrote earlier she is buried in Bever Park in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, but I'm not sure where she really died.

Newspaper clipping:
"Jonathan Grant’s Daughters Married Two Flack Brothers"

Two hundred and twenty seven members of the Flack families are living today, who are direct descendants of Jonathan Grant, the first white settler in Holmes County, Ohio.

Samuel Flack, with his wife and six children, James, Robert, Thomas, Mary, Isabelle and William migrated to what is now Prairie Township, from Beaver County, Pennsylvania, when William was two years old. Their migration to Holmes County, Ohio, was made when the area through which they traveled between Pittsburgh and Holmes County, was still a wilderness, and not long after they had settled near the present vicinity of Holmesville, Mrs. Flack died. Without having the exact data, it is surmised that she succumbed to the strenuous exertion necessary to make such a trip as travel was at that time. Later Mr. Flack was married, this time to Effie Imbrie, of Pennsylvania. The family remained at their former location, near Holmesville, on what is now known as the Peter Painter Farm.

Two of Samuel Flack’s sons, James and William, married two daughters of Jonathan Grant, whose names were Jane and Margaret. His second son, Robert, married Maria Imbrie, of Pennsylvania, in 1825. Mary Flack became Mrs. Robert Caldwell, while Isabelle was married to Phillip Yauger. William Flack, the youngest of the family lived to be 93.

Samuel Flack’s descendants are of large number and are scattered over the entire United States, with only a few left in Holmes County.

It is interesting to note that Troyer Flack, a son of James and Jane Grant-Flack is the only one of their nine children now living. He lives on the original Flack abode, north of Holmesville. Mrs. Hattie Davis -Miller, and Dorsey Flack are descendants of Jonathan Grant and Samuel Flack.

Matilda Flack Miller, a daughter of William and Margaret Grant-Flack, is now almost 75 years old and is the only surviving member of this family. Ella Orr and Ora Miller, direct descendants of this family live within plain view of the old Jonathan Grant settlement in Salt Creek township. Lois Miller Hastings who lives west of Millersburg, is a direct descendant of Jonathan Grant, being a great grandchild.
