It's been quite some time since I've posted here. Recently the Cemetery Association of Orange City, Florida sent me the fol info on my gg-grandfather.
--John died March 22, 1915 at the age of 86 and was buried the fol day.
--He was a sailor for 14yrs Newfoundland to U.S.
--He was a deserter from the Union Army, Civil war and was not entitled to a pension or a marker.
The 1910 Federal census listed him as being born in Massachusetts. The 1900 census has him born in Canada. The 1880 census says he was born in Nova Scotia. My thinking is he was born in Nova Scotia, fought(?) with a unit formed in MA and ended up in central Florida after the war.
Just thought I'd share. Comments welcome. Dow
