Family of Leonard Keith BENNETT 1887 (Birmingham, UK) - 1967 (Largo, FL, USA)
I am researching the family history of Leonard BENNETT.I have a great deal of information, up to his emigration in May 1916, initially to Canada, and thence in 1924 to the USA (Detroit, MI).I have a surprising amount of information about his life in Canada and the USA, but I have reached a stopping point, unless there is someone researching his siblings' families, who has information about him: I am hoping he maintained contact with his mother &/or siblings after he left UK.Alternatively, he may have family (or step-family) in Canada or the USA who can help me.
His mother Hannah (née BOOTH Feb 1846 Alton Common, m Dec 1862 in Tipton, Staffordshire, and d Sep 1918 in Sparkbrook, Birmingham, UK) didn't follow the instructions for completing the 1911 census, and listed her born-alive children numbers, even though her husband, George, had died in January 1898.This means that I believe that Leonard was the youngest of ten children, of whom six were still living in 1911.I know the names of only four (including Leonard):
Mary Hannah, b 1871 q4 Bolton, Lancashire; married 1906 q4 Aston, Warwickshire to Thomas MALLARD.They had at least three children, of whom only the daughter, Florence, appears to have survived to adulthood, married (CHARLTON) and had a family before her death in 1998.
Arthur, b late 1873 in Masham, Yorkshire, who was a soldier and postman. He married Gertrude Lil(l)ian SMALL, 1906 q2 Aston, and had at least three children.I am in touch with a researcher who has Gertrude in his tree as a twig on the SMALL side.I think Arthur died in 1925, but the name is not sufficiently distinctive to be sure that I have picked up the correct death registration.
Harry (George), b late 1880 Glossop, Derbyshire, also a soldier, and a groom. He married Lily GRAYSTON in Jan 1907 at St Andrews Bordesley, Birmingham. They had at least nine children, although the late-born (1927) twins died as babes. Some of those children married and had children.Spouse surnames include: (a groom) MARTIN and (brides) THOMAS and, possibly, HARPER and LARVIN.Grandchildren groom surnames include EVANS and SILK.
I have traced these names mostly in the Birmingham area, but only as tree names, not as contacts.I have still to find the names of the other children born alive to Hannah and George (there are some big gaps between the children about whom I know – and between the marriage and the “first” child, Mary Hannah). It is very possible that some have moved away within the UK, or even emigrated to other parts of the world, of course.I would really like to know more about this part of the tree, and would be willing to share my research with others for whom this family is of particular interest.
