Sumter County Florida to Relocate Historic Cemetery, Two WWI Veterans Buried There Sumter County Florida plans to remove an historic cemetery which dates to the 1800s, as an industry is eyeing the property for development. We learned about it yesterday when a reader sent us the link. The County Administrator's comments were unfortunately quite cavalier: http://www.lcni5.com/cgi-bin/c2.cgi?073+article+News+2009092... The Sumter County Times followed with an editorial today which suggests that the County is pulling a fast move that the community should be aware of: http://www.lcni5.com/cgi-bin/c2.cgi?073+article+Opinion+2009... We have just followed with a reply to that editorial: http://www.lcni5.com/cgi-bin/c2.cgi?073+article+Opinion+2009... Administrator Bradley Arnold's email address is: bradley.arnold@sumtercountyfl.gov in case you would like to write to express concern. You can also reply to the Sumter County Times' editorial on the following page: http://www.lcni5.com/cgi-bin/c2.cgi?073+article+Opinion+2009... There are two WWI veterans buried in this cemetery: Joseph Inabnet and Herman McCray. There are both white and African American people buried in this cemetery. The oldest marked burial is for Joseph White. b. 1849 Cape Vincent, NY, d. Oct. 1889. Best, Toni Notify Administrator about this message?
