Obituary: MYRON ERNEST HERRICK, 08/28/1923 to 01/29/2000

CLEARWATER FLORIDA/MADISON - Myron Ernest Herrick, age 76, passed on peacefully at his home on Saturday, January 29, 2000. Myron was born on August 28, 1923, in Madison, Wisconsin, the son of Ernest and Abbie L. (Hatch) Herrick. Myron attended Madison East Side High School, and graduated from Madison West High School. On June 28, 1947, Myron married the former Mabel Nikkoline Ovadal in Madison. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary together in 1997. Myron honorably served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He worked at Oscar Mayer & Company in Madison for over 37 years. His favorite activities were fishing, hunting, bowling and playing cards with family and friends and he enjoyed reading and gardening. Myron was a life-long Madison resident and member of Bethel Lutheran Church until retiring to Clearwater, Florida in 1984. He was a multi-gallon blood donor for the American Red Cross and a volunteer worker at All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida and then spent several years volunteering at the St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen and Meals-on-Wheels programs in Clearwater. Myron will be deeply missed and is lovingly survived by his wife, Mabel of Clearwater and two children, Karen Lynn (Stephen) Warga of Castro Valley, California and James Myron (Janet) Herrick of Madison. He is further survived by four grandchildren, Janeen Lynn (Shawn) Corcoran, Jennifer Ann Herrick, Ronald Gary Herrick and Jamie Tiffany; one great-grandchild, Michael James Corcoran; and a sister, Dorothy Wilcox. Myron also leaves many loving sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gary Alan Herrick; sisters Blanche Naomi Willard, Bonita Avalon Drone and Thelma Lucille Harding and brothers Albert Earl, Lyman Duane and Derryl George and infant Robert. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 4. 2000 at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 2418 N. Sherman Avenue, Madison. Pastor James T. Bean III will officiate. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 3, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at RYAN FUNERAL HOME.
