The Robinson Opera Company.

A Clever Presentation of “Olivette” at the Opera House Last Night.

The Robinson Opera company opened its week’s engagement at the Park
opera house last night and played to a very good audience. The opera
was “Olivette,” and it was successfully presented.
As the company is playing at popular prices, it might have been
expected that there would be many shortcomings to be allowed for, but all
those who attended last night were more than agreeably surprised. The
performance was clean throughout, and the actors were up to the standard.
Old Jacksonville theater-goers had a treat in store for them in the
appearance of Tom Martin, who assumed the character of Coquelicot, the
foster-brother of the Duc des Ifs. Mr. Martin made a great reputation in
Jacksonville ten years ago, when he played with the Bijou Opera company
(the Adelaide Randall Opera company) and appeared as Ko-Ko in “The
Mikado.” Mr. Martin did not disappoint his old friends last night in the
character of Coquelicot, for he kept the audience in a roar of laughter
during his entire appearance on the stage. His local hits were
immense, and the audience showed their appreciation of them.
Henry C. Peakes as Captain de Merimac, of the ship Cormorant; Charles
N. Holmes, as Valentine, his nephew; Phil Nares, as the Duc des Ifs,
were all very good and received their full share of the honors.
Olivette was exceedingly well portrayed by Miss Isabel Sargent, who
has a particularly sweet voice, which she used to splendid advantage.
Miss Frankie Broach very cleverly presented the character of Bathielde,
the Countess of Russilion, as did Miss Minnie Stella the part of
Veloutine.
The chorus is unusually strong, and the costumes are fully up to date.
During the second act last night Miss Ruth Akers made quite a hit with
her exhibition of dancing.
