I believe Hugh W. Beatty is also the brother of John H. Batey, who was born in 1836 in Alabama. The two brothers were living with sister Sarah and husband Richard Stephens in 1850. Hugh & wife Candace moved to Wisner, LA sometime after 1900 and are both buried in the Holly Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Wisner, as is brother John and his wife Mary Catherine. I could not understand why the two brothers were living in Florida, listed as "laborers," in 1850 until I found a record showing they had an older sister, Sarah who was born in 1831. Their father, William (?) Beatty, was born in Ireland circa 1800. No information on their mother, other than genealogy records indicate she was born in North Carolina. I'm wondering if their parents died and that's why the two brothers were living with their sister? My lineage comes from (1) William Beatty 1800, (2) John H. Batey 1836, (3) William Tilling Batey, Sr. 1868, (4) William Tilling Batey, Jr. 1905, (5) Ernest King Batey, Sr. 1927 (my father).
