I have a few thoughts I would like to throw out there for anyone to comment on to see what ya'll think, since I mostly just have clues to work with here.
I have seen online that William Norris b:Dec.1745 Cheraw, Chesterfield Dist.SC s/o Robert Norris & Edith James, married Unknown Notley. It's said that her parents are Joel Notley and Martha Biggers.
Now William Norris b:1745 had 8 children with one of them being Joel Norris b: abt. 1771 in Chesterfield,SC.
Now Joel Norris married Tamar Green abt. 1791-92 in SC. and they had 10 children. One of those children are Joel Green Norris b: abt. 1798 who is reported to have married Mary Polly Adams.
Now I find a Green Norris listed on the 1850 Holmes Co.Fl census with what I feel is no wife. I believe that Martha is "possibly" his daughter and maybe she never marries and lives with him to care for the other children. It appears to me that a set of twins were born about 1847 (Henry & Thomas) both age 3 on the census, so maybe Mary Polly Adams died giving birth. Green Norris and Martha are found on the 1870, 1880, 1885 Santa Rosa Co.Fl census "OR" another possibility is that he remarried after the death of Mary Polly Adams to a Martha Unknown? I don't know at this point? On the 1885 census it shows a Netty Norris age 42, William age 20 and California Norris age 7. Who are they?
On the 1800 Chesterfield dist.SC census I find Editha Norris (mother of Joel and William) and Joel and William Norris on this.
Now back to Joel Norris and Tamar Green-Norris. They name one of their daughters Tamar Norris b:1795 after the mother Tamar Green-Norris.
Now what I find interesting is that my gr-gr-great grandfather Bronson Norris is listed on the 1860 Holmes Co.Fl census with his wife (Evaline "Clarkie" Ann Kittrell)and child and beside him is his brother-in-law Robert French, wife (Lucretia "Cressie" Ann Kittrell) and child.
In 1869 Robert French and Cressie Ann Kittrell-French names a daughter Tamar French. Now Robert's mother name is Elizabeth and is from SC (I have to look and see where I found this info.) Now I wonder what the chances are that we might find a connection to the French's and Norris's there?
I have always wondered what the connection was with Bronson and Robert that the 1860 census states they were both born in Georgia and just happened to meet up with and marry two sisters born in Alabama?
We know that Thomas J. French also born in GA, and that he married Catherine Youngblood Mayo. And they are the only French's in Holmes Co.Fl in 1850.
Gosh I wish I could figure this mystery out and I wished I knew if my gr-gr-great grandfather was possibly a child of Joel Green Norris who married Mary Polly Adams on Feb.12, 1823 in Georgia.
Ive often wondered if he is Floyd Norris????????
(Norris, Kittrell, French, Mayo, Green)
