Hi Kathy, we are 'kin'.John Albert Strickland 1859-1934 married Martha Emma Bryan 1879-1971.They were my great-grandparents.John Albert never knew his father. This is a mystery that all us 'cousins' are working on at this time.John Albert Strickland's mother was Elva "Elvey" Anne Strickland 1829-1900.She had two sons Albert and Jacob.Elvey (her name was spelled many different ways) was the daughter of Elias Strickland 1804- 1858and Synthia A. Starling 1815-1872.Elias was the son of Philip Strickland, Sr. 1756-1820 and Catherine Loftin 1770-1820.
Philip was the son of William Strickland, Sr. 1706-1781 and Mary died in 1790.From here we are still working to prove the line.We believe at this time that William was the son of Matthew M. Strickland, II 1663-1730 and Ann Braswell 1674-1744 but this is still to be proven.Martha Emma Bryan was the daughter of Jessie Brown Bryan 1854-1911 and Fredonia Hughes 1857-(?).Jessie was the son of James L. Bryan 1838-(?) and Martha Gilley 1825-(?).James was the son of Simpson Bryan 1815 -(?) and Mary Emaline Kaigler 1818-(?).Simpson Bryan was the son of Littleton Bryan 1780-1836 and Elizabeth McGruder.(have more on this line but still proving this.)Fredonia Hughes was the daughter of John Hughes 1838-1913 and Sarah Nancy Clark 1838-1927.John was the son of Joseph Hughes 1815-1902 and Elizabeth Betty Clark 1815- (?) Joseph was the son of John Hughes 1785 - (?) and Mary Duggs (we think).Sarah Nancy Clark was the daughter of Elijah Clark 1807-1871 and Sarah Harper 1807-1851.Have more on all this if you want it.I would like to get more information on your Stricklands for my files.Ann Robbins ......
