THOMPSON, Ruth Jester, 89, passed away on May 3, 2003. Born on August 12, 1913, she was the daughter of Frank and Nellie Colyar Jester. She was the first white child born in the incorporated town of Lake Alfred, for which she was named. She grew up there and in 1929 moved to Rome, Ga. She graduated from Rome High in 1931 as an Honor Graduate, and was the soprano vocalist for the graduation ceremony. She chose Business Administration as her field. Silvero Corp., and the Georgia Power Corp., employed her. She is survived by her husband of nearly; 70 years, Ray. When Ray was stationed in Tampa during World War II, she moved with him and worked for the Tampa Electric Co., later transferring to Anderson Dental Supply, from which she retired in 1974. She was an active participant in church and civic activities, and will be greatly missed by Ray; sister, Florence J. Brodman; and many nieces and nephews, who regarded her as a second mother. A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 5, 2003 at 9:30 a.m. at Sunset Memory Gardens.
