There was an article and an obituary on Richard Lane, Jr.

Here is the article:

THE TAMPA TRIBUNE, Wednesday, December 17, 1986 (main sect.)

RICHARD LANE JR., 34, UT executive dies
Richard Neal Lane Jr., vice president of business and finance at the University of Tampa, died Monday of cancer at the age of 34.
He was a resident of the Tampa Bay area for two years, moving from Columbia, Mo., and was of the Church of Christ faith.
Lane was one of the first patients of the University of South Florida's brain tumor center and was on hand for the center's opening in June 1985. In an interview at the time, he said he was told in January 1985 that he had cancer and his doctor told him that he had just a few weeks to live.
"The type of tumor I have doesn't have a cure," Lane said then. "The trick is to manage the problem long enough until research can find a cure."
Lane was able to return to work part time after surgery and chemotherapy temporarily halted the growth of the tumor, but he eventually had to quit.
"He approached his job like he approached life, with a 'Let's get the job done.' kind of attitude," said Gary Smith, vice president for institutional advance at UT, who described Lane as a friend and co-worker.
"He was a real hard-charger and he was concerned about everyone," Smith said.
Lane is survived by his wife, June R.; one son, Richard Neal III; one daughter, Julie Anne of Brandon; his mother and stepfather, Mildred and Eldon Geist of Coarsegold, Calif.; and one sister, Karen Quinn of Agoura, Calif. Stowers Funeral Home, Brandon.

THE TAMPA TRIBUNE, Wednesday, December 17, 1986 (Florida section)

RICHARD NEAL LANE JR., 34, of Brandon, died Monday of natural causes. He was a resident of the Tampa Bay area for two years, moving from Columbia, Mo. He was vice president of Business and Finance at the University of Tampa and he was of the Church of Christ faith. He is survived by his wife, June R.; one son, Richard Neal III; one daughter, Julie Anne of Brandon; his mother and stepfather, Mildred and Eldon Geist of Coarsegold, Calif.; and one sister, Karen Quinn of Agoura, Calif. Stowers Funeral Home, Brandon.

There did not seem to be any kind of funeral notice. I checked the following four days and found nothing. It's possible he was cremated and there was no funeral. Usually, though, it will say when they are having a memorial service. Just couldn't find anything. Spending five dollars for his death cert. would tell you whether he was cremated or buried. Or you could try to reach Stowers in Brandon via telephone and see if they can help you.

Hope this helps.
Brenda
