James Rogers/Rodgers b. about 1848
Here is what I know about my great grandfather JAMES RODGERS:
My great grandfather was JAMES RODGERS b. about 1848. From a phone conversation I had
with a nephew of James, it is thought that James Rodgers/Rogers was originally from
KENTUCKY.
In some notes my mother made during a conversation with my grandmother on what she
remembered about her father, my grandmother said that James Rodgers/Rogers was in Virginia,
Georgia, N.C. and S.C. before he came to Hamilton County, Jasper, Florida. He also
spoke of Adel but I do not know if this is a person or a place.
JAMES RODGERS/ROGERS came to Hamilton Co., Florida circa 1887.He came to the
DEMPSEY farm and decided to stay.James was know as a horse trader.
JAMES RODGERS/ROGERS married DILLA ANN (DillyAnn)DEMPSEY on 15 January 1888
in Hamilton, Co., Fl.
Their children are;
JESSE ROGERS b. 1888
OLLIE ELIZABETH RODGERS b. 1895 (my grandmother- m. Alexander Osborn McCook)
REUBIN ROGERS B. 1908
ELZIE ROGERS B. 1900
HORACE ROGERS B. 1910
LULA ROGERS
ADA ROGERS
JULIA ROGERS
Paul Dempsey, nephew of James Rogers and Dilla Ann told me that his (Paul's) father was at
James Rogers bedside when James died and James Rogers made a death bed confession stating
the he, James Rogers, rode with Frank and Jesse James (:~O.
Also that he named his son Jesse "after his good friend Jesse James".
Of course this bit of info will probably never be verified but it makes an interesting family story (:~)
JAMES RODGERS/ROGERS died 1935 and is buried at Rosemary Church Cemetery in
Suwannee County, Florida.
So...... That is about all I have so far on my Rodgers/Rogers family line.I hope to be able to one
day find James' parents and also if he had any siblings.
Hope you find this interesting and if you think there could be a connection somewhere down the
line, would love to share more data as I find it.
Good luck to all with your continued research and look forward to finding connecting Rodgers/Rogers family.
