Hi Susan,
Yes Daniel Bell is recognized as the First Settler in Hamilton County. He was also the first Senator from Hamilton County in the very first State Legislative Session. He helped establish Hamilton County and was appointed the First County Judge by the new Governor of Florida in 1845. We need to get Daniel Bells picture (I have one)hung at the County Courthouse and will before I am through. He built a watermill on Tiger Creek later named Bell Creek at the border of my father's back pasture....Daniels descendants..and yours... still own and farm the land on the otherside of the creek. Simon Bell was indeed a part of the development and served the county as well. The Bell/Tuten Cemetery on Daniel original homestead tell it all.....The earliest pioneers of Hamilton County. I am looking forward to showing you this interesting place. Ellen Arhetta Tuten Bell's father is still believed to be my Great Grandfather's brother (James R. Tuten).
