The West Florida Genealogical Society, Inc. was formed in May, 1982 as a not-for-profit educational organization. It serves members residing in the western panhandle of Florida and southern Alabama, the area historically known as West Florida. The purpose of the organization is to bring members and others together who are interested in genealogy and family history. The Society promotes genealogical research through conferences/workshops, programs and other related activities in order to educate and assist members in their genealogical interests.
Meetings are held on the first Saturday of each month at the Bayview Senior Center at 20th Ave. & Lloyd St. in Pensacola and are open to the public. On most meeting days, an education class is held from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. before the meeting. (See below for topics). 9:00 to 10:00 is the time for browsing the book table, enjoying a cup of coffee and a do-nut, or just chatting with other members. The meeting starts at 10:00 with a short business meeting and a program.
The WFGS publishes a monthly newsletter and an annual Journal, West Florida Footprints . They also host a fall workshop and a late winter conference.
