Buried in the Western Cemetery, Quincy, Gadsden County
Colonel Owen Philyaw/Fillyaw, died 1833, age 50 years, a native of New Hanover County. Buried near him are sons Albert Fillyaw, Oscar Fillyaw, and James Fillyaw. I believe Owen to be the brother of Stephen Fillyaw and Cullin G. Fillyaw of New Hanover County, North Carolina. Owen Fillyaw came to Gadsden County in 1826 as one of the early settlers and both he and his sons fought in the early Indian Wars of that area. They had a close relationship with the Love and Kenan families, also Gregories, Condreys, Johnson, Wilder, Middleton, Gilcrease/Kilcrease families, as well as others.
If you have any information on the Fillyaws, I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks, Connie Fowler of Randleman, North Carolina
