Two young brothers, Henry Marion Knowles and Robert Calvin Knowles, sons of Daniel and Elvira Knowles, were living with the family in Monroe County, AL on the 1860 census. On the 1870 census, they are in Monroe County with James and Chloe Hendrix. They moved with the Hendrix family to Hillsborough County, FL in the early 1870s.
Henry (b. about 1854) married Tabitha Modine Messer (b. Oct. 1859) on March 15, 1877 in Hillsborough County. Henry and Tabitha are on the 1900 Hillsborough County census, but missing on the 1910 (though their children are there on that census). Evidently they died 1900-1910.
From census and WWI draft records, they had the following children:
M. M. Knowles (daughter) -- b. April 1883
Robert Henry Knowles -- b. Feb. 23, 1885
M. L. Knowles (daughter) -- b. Sept. 1887
Thomas Harrison Knowles -- b. Oct. 19, 1889
J. E. (Edd? or John Edward?) -- b. Dec. 1891
James Allen Knowles -- Feb. 26, 1896
A. Mary Knowles -- Dec. 1899
On the 1930 Hillsborough County census, I find the sons and their families:
Robert H. married Marjorie B. (or maybe Margaret Rebecca who died July 15, 1974 in Hillsborough County).
Thomas H. married Lunnie M.
James Allen married Cora M.
Edward J. married Eliza E. (John Edward Knowles died Nov. 1963 in Hillsborough County.)
Now to the brother Calvin (born Feb. 1858). He married Missouri ?? in about 1876. I see they had at least 3 sons:
George Knowles -- born Sept. 1883
James Lee Knowles -- born May 1888
Herman Robert Knowles -- born May 11, 1891; died 1946 in Tampa
Calvin and Missouri are on the 1910 De Soto County, FL census. Missouri is on the 1920 De Soto census, listed as a widow. I find a Missouri Knowles on the FL Death Index, died 1925 in Madison County, FL.
I know this is a lot of rambling, but I am trying to find somebody who knows about either Henry or Calvin. Maybe a descendant of either brother? They were the brothers of my wife's gg-grandfather, James Lewis Knowles who died November 8, 1926 in Escambia County, AL.
