Looking for any information about Monroe Bess being convicted for a shooting in Calhoun County between 1910 and 1913. According to the 1910 cencus he was living in Calhoun County Altha Township at that time with his wife Mary and two daughters. He was a farmer. Family story reports that he was convicted of such a crime , escaped from prison ,assumed the name of James Howard Ward and died in a mining accident in 1918 in Missouri. I am trying to confirm the story. Any confirming information would be appreciated. He is my Grandfather.
