Bruton/ Brewton DNA Study

Hello all,

We and a group of Brewton/Bruton researchers are conducting a DNA study, to try to determine how the five Bruton families in the colonial Carolinas were related, and to determine from where they came in Europe.

Some of the early Brutons settled in southern Alabama in Conecuh and Escambia County, AL. A number of descendants, some using the "Brewton" spelling and others the "Bruton" spelling, settled in Florida, most notably in Alachua and Escambia Counties. We are seeking male descendants of these early Brutons/Brewtons to take the DNA test with us.

For more details on our study, please visit our webpage at:

If you have questions, comments, or suggestions to help us locate male Bruton/Brewton descendants, please contact us. Thanks!

Brian Nilsson
