Without documentation all this stuff about William Ballard and Joanna Fitzwilliam is idle speculation. According to Arthur Orison Dillon (who gave no sources), Philip was from Greenwich, county Kent, and married Joanna Fitzwilliam, dau. of Edward of Southwell in Nottinghamshire. Southwell marriages (which have been published) do not show such a marriage, only one for William Ballard and Alice Marten, 19 Nov. 1589. I have not checked the allegation that William Ballard was christened at Salford Priors in Warwickshire on 12 Aug. 1603. I suspect there is such a record, but does it name the parents? One internet entry shows him chr. 1603 and born 1617 -- quite a trick! Even if isolated facts can be documented, they should not be connected without proof. There were several William Ballards.
