Robert Fitzsimmons was a very famous boxer in the
late 1800's and early 1900's. He is supposedly related
to me, according to my father's grandmother, Lizzie
Fitzsimmons Schofield. There are websites about the
famous Bob or Rosey Robert as he was sometimes called.
He was the only man to be the Champion of the World
in several different weight divisions of boxing. He
lived in Australia after being born in England. Later
he moved to the US and took up his boxing career. He
was the 12th child of James Fitsimmons and his Cornish
wife, Jane (of Iruro). Look him up on the internet and
in encylopedias, etc. I wonder how my ggrandmother,
Elizabeth, or Lizzie fits into this family. She must
have been the daughter of one of his many brothers?
She lived in Philadelphia in the 1880's when she married George Schofield.
