Hi everyone from down under. I have been doing the Australian side of the Fitzsimmons (and variants) side of the family for many years and have just put my results on a related site (I am not sure of the final URL). Anyhow part of the problem of the different spellings is that when they established a prison colony in Australia, most of the people couldn't spell (let alone read or write and the same person is often spelt several different ways. I did not find my convict ancestor in the NSW 1837 muster for a long time as it was on a previous page under 'Fitzimons'. Looking for 'Moloney' once led me to 'Mulawney' which is a phonetic spelling probably by the Catholic Parish priest. Anyhow I'm glad I found this forum. Be in touch.
