Hi, I'm a London-born Fitzsimmons (my maiden name). I never realised there were so many Americans with the same name! My dad, who's never wrong about such things (!) told me that it's originally French - we came over to England with William the Conqueror. 1066 and all that. High-born servers of the King. The Fitzsimmons are not of Irish extract, a common misconception. Many of the Fitz's did move on from England to Ireland - but not the Fitzsimmons. I would love to hear other theories. I just stumbled on to this site by chance. Julie
