I'm interested in finding out if there are any descendants of my great great grandfather in Canada.
My great great grandfather was John Fitz-Patrick (born 1818 in Ireland) and served as Surgeon Major in the Madras army where he met his wife, Mary Ann, and had some children including my great grandfather, Bernard Gowran Fitz-Patrick (born India 1851), his second son. At the time of his will in 1871, his first son, John Fitz-Patrick (born India 1849) was living in Canada. A younger son, Peter Edward John Fitz-Patrick (born India 1855), was at boarding school in Cranleigh, Surrey at the time of the British census of 1871 but is also recorded as living in Canada at a later stage.
At the time of the 1871 census, which is the year in which he made his will, my great great grandfather was living in Lenham, Kent. At the time of the census, his son John Fitz-Patrick was at the same address even though his father's will indicates him as living in Canada at some stage in 1871.
My great grandfather (a clergyman) moved to South Africa in the late 19th century with his family, including my grandfather, Bernard John Gowran Fitz-Patrick, who was born in Cheshire in 1876. He became Rector in Barberton, a small town in the Eastern Transvaal (now Mpumalanga) near the Swaziland and Mozambique borders.
My great great grandfather's younger brother, Francis Skelton Fitz-Patrick (born County Cork 1837), also served in the Madras Army.
At a later stage, I'll post the family tree online so that it's easier to see the connections between the various family members.
