Hello Adrian
I've been aware of "your" John Fitzmaurice with wife Ann Taylor and children for some time. If my memory serves me well both are described as accountants on, I think, the 1881 census. Do you know where in Mayo he came from? It really seems too much of a coincidence that unconnected Fitzmaurices from the same county in Ireland should arrive by chance in Birmingham. Surely there must be connections. Our John worked as a clerk, evidence that both could read and write.
I'd be grateful if you've got any more info. Incidentally, I live near to Birmingham.
