I research the Irish Family History Foundation's database. It contains 12,000,000 surviving rcds for abt 65% of Irish counties. Rcds are increasingly sparse B4 1840, rare B4 1800. Note 1 - Without a KNOWN county, the chance of an ancestor's rcds NOT being in this database is AT LEAST 35%. Note 2 - Only 1/2 of Co. Cork's rcds are in this database. Note 3 - The RC church kept control over most parish rcds from Tipperary (north). These are ONLY available thru the Tipperary Family History Research center at a substantial fee (regardless of outcome). For John Fitzgerald B 1838 +/- 1 yr in Co. Limerick with a father forenamed James, I found 3 rcds: 1837, 1838, and 1839. For Edward Fitzgerald B 1840 ditto, I found 0 rcds. For James Fitzgerald B 1808 +/- 1 yr in Co. Limerick with a father forenamed John, I found 2 rcds: 1807 and 1808. However, neither was in Ballyagran parish. Ballyagran B rcds don't begin until 1826. For John Fitzgerald M 1788 +/- 4 yrs in Co. Limerick, I found 8 rcds: 2-1785, 1786, 1787, 1788, 1789, 1790, & 1792. Only 6 of 63 Limerick RC parishes were keeping M rcds by 1788. For Honora Goal M ditto, I found 0 rcds. Either the maiden name is incorrect, or the rcd didn't survive. For the 1st case, there are NO B or M rcds for the surname Goal at anydate, anywhere in Ireland. If the latter case, then the potential rcds for John are false positives. The 1st case seems the more likely. You can take a chance that ONE of the 8 rcds for John is the right one and view the detailed rcd(s). The one, if any, which has Honora/Hanorah as the bride's name could be for your ancestor. Note - there is a 5 euro fee for each rcd viewed. Your chances are slim. Google the Foundation's name to lead you to this database. Register, opt to be notified as rcds are added and browse. Pls post your search results to my genforum msg. Hope this helps. Good luck. Notify Administrator about this message?
