Wm. W. Fitts. M.D., Carrollton, Ga. was born in Elbert County, Ga., November 23, 1830. His father, Walker Fitts, was a native of Virginia, a planter by occupation. And died in 1854 at the age of sixty-five years. The father of Walker Fitts was Tandy Fitts, also a native of Virginia, who followed planting. The mother of our subject was Anna P. (Christian) Fitts, a native of Elbert County, Ga., and a daughter of William Christian. She was the mother of ten children, of whom our subject was the fourth. The names of those living are Marion J., Wm. W., Julia wife of John L. Fletcher, and Jane wife of C. H. Barenton.

Wm. W. Fitts read medicine with J. G. and W. F. Westmoreland, of Atlanta, Ga. He then entered the Atlanta Medical College, graduating as M. D. in 1860. After practicing his profession one year in Calhoun County, Ala., he volunteered and entered the Confederate army as a private in Company K, Forty-fourth Alabama regiment, and served in the army of Virginia until 1863, He was then compelled to return home on account of ill health. During the year 1862 he acted as surgeon in his regiment, and in the fall of 1863 he located in Carrollton, where he has since resided and pursued the practice of his profession. In 1878 he established a first-class drug store in Carrollton, which he still continues to carry on in connection with his practice.

May 17, 1855, he married Miss A. W. Brown, daughter of Samuel and Ruth (Brooks) Brown, of Georgia. To their marriage have been born six children, viz.: Emma, wife of C. B. Simonton; Wm. L., Robert H., head clerk in his father's drug store; Anna, wife of N. R. Moses; Eugenia and James W. William L., the second child, read medicine with his father and graduated from the Atlanta Medical College. Subsequently he entered the College of Physicians and Surgeons, New York City, from which institution he graduated in 1881 and then located in Carrollton.

Dr. Fitts is a Royal Arch Mason, a council member and a member of the Blue Lodge No. 69 and Chapter No. 22. Both he and his wife are identified with the Baptist Church.
