I am looking for information on Deliah/Delilah Fitts who married Tobias Van Burin/Van Buren on 28 November 1838 in Bibb County, Alabama. They do not appear in any of the Bibb County Alabama Census records.

In the Fitts/Smitherman families of Bibb Co., Alabama I have found the following information which suggests a connection to the above.

I know from his estate record that Deliah Fitts was not the daughter of REUBEN FITTS & "Unknown" Chandler. {Dau. of Joel Chandler of SC} although the below records are all connected to Reuben's descendants.

There was also a WILLIAM FITTS who could possibly have been a brother to REUBEN that came to Bibb Co., AL. and who married "Unknown" Chandler {another daughter of Joel Chandler}. There is not much infomration on the family of WILLIAM FITTS. In 1850 US Bibb Co., AL. Census William Fitts was listed as age 80 which puts his birth at about 1770 SC His wife was listed as Elizabeth. There is a marriage in Bibb County, Alabama for a William Fitts and Elizabeth Edwards on 9 September 1932 in Bibb Co., Al. [This Elizabeth is believed to be the widow of John Edwards of Bibb County, Alabama. William Fitts was one of the securities on the estate.]

Mac Hicks 12 M
[NOTE; The above is Henry Oliver Fitts. He was the son of Henry Fitts b. ca 1806 SC and Harriett Taylor who married 11 January 1827 in Bibb County, Alabama. Henry Fitts was the son of REUBEN FITTS d. abt 1854 Bibb County, Alabama & wife "Unknown" Chandler {dau. of Joel Chandler- per his estate}]

NOTE: See 1910 & 1920 US Chilton CO., Al. census records below. Francis Van Buren was possibly Rebecca Francis Van Buren.

1880 US Bibb County, Alabama Census

Elizabeth 55 wife SC SC SC
Capitola Van Buren 13 cousin

NOTE: Capitola Van Buren married James Thomas Fitts who from what I have found was the son of Harrison Stansfield Fitts & Nancy Leach. Harrison Stansfield Fitts was the son of Henry Fitts & Harriet Taylor.

NOTE: Capitola Van Buren has also been listed on various records of her children [S.Soc app., etc] as Catherine Eugenia Smitherman as well as Catherine Eugenia Van Buren.

1910 US Chilton Co., AL. Census Pct. 8 house no 142/145: JASPER Smitherman 47 M Widow,
Herby C 16 son,
Fannie 12 daughter,
Rebecca Vann 62 female 60 single. [death certificate lists her as Rebecca Van Buren]
[NOTE: Jasper Franklin Smitherman was the son of Rolley Smitherman and Mary E Fitts. Mary E Fitts Smitherman was the daughter of Walker Fitts and Sarah Needham of Bibb County Alabama. Walker Fitts was a son of REUBEN FITTS & "Unknown" Chandler {dau of Joel Chandler of SC}

1920 US Chilton Co., Al. Census Pct 14 Macedonia house no 53/51
JASPER F Smitherman 57 male Widow,
FANNIE 21 daughter,
household no 54/ [living with Jasper]
HERBIE C 26 Male,
MARY A 22 , daughter-in-law,
NOLAN 1 7/12 grandson,
LELIOUS 2/12 grandson,
REBECCA VANN 77 cousin. [listed on Ala. Death Certificate as Rebecca Van Buren
NOTE: According to the sister of Mary Ann Childress Smitherman who had known Rebecca Vann and remembered when she died. She stated that Rebeccaa Vann had a daughter whose name she did not recall who lived in Bibb County, Alabama. This daughter could very well have been Capitola/Catherine Eugenia Van Buren/Smitherman who married James Thomas Fitts.

I would appeciate any help on this. This has been a major puzzle in our family for too many years.
