In Reply to: Dorcas Mary Fithian of Illinois by Jolene Huddleston of 168

Hi Jolene, I met you in California. I see my cousin Bill, has been answering your question concerning Dorcas Mary Fithian of Ill. Israel and his wife Dorcas Smith came from NJ and settled for a time in Ohio, where at least 1 son, Smith, stayed, and evidently where Dorcas died as Israel married a Hannah Coomes before moving on into Illinois with sons Benjamin, Glover, Samuel and perhaps Mary Ann. Mary Ann married George Husted in Clark Co., Ohio, May 7, 1835.
To make matters more confusing, Benjamin and Glover, married sisters, Margaret and Mary Ann Catt. These brothers, used almost identical names for their children. On the 1850 Census, Margaret Fithian 33, F. is listed as head of the household. Children as follows:
David, 12 M
Job 10 M
Rachel 5 F
Catharine 3/4 F
Mary C 3 F
Where Catharine is listed should be Charles, we knew about Mary, she married August Bourdalon in Gibson Co., IN. and I have never found any other trace of her. We had heard there was Ike and Ben but not David or Job, after talking with an older cousin we decided Ike was David and Job was Benjamin Job as this fit the ages. In 1860, Ben, Charles and Mary were listed on the Indiana 1860 Census living with a Benjamin Jones family.
Glover and Mary were also in the 1850 census with the following children:
Mary H 12 F
Job 10 M
Rachel 7 F
Dorcas 6 F
Margaret 2 F
I don't know the age of the Mary you are looking for, perhaps she is the daughter of Glover and Mary, rather than the daughter of Benjamin and Margaret. or perhaps the daughter of Israel and Dorcas. It could be that Mary Bourdelon's husband died and she remarried. Puzzles, puzzles. Good luck! I just wanted to make things more clear, hope I didn't muddle it more. We have no idea what happened to Benjamin, our forefather. Happy hunting. Wilma
