I believe that this Richard L. Fite was an uncle of my dad (Richard Clyde Smalley b. 8/9/1913 in Muscogee, OK). What I have been trying to prove is my Cherokee ancestry. I was told when I was growing up that my grandfather, also Richard Clyde Smalley, had enough Cherokee in him to claim land on the reservation, but he turned it down. He died at the age of about 35 suddenly when Daddy was just about 6 months old. My grandfather's father's name was James W. Smalley who married Laura (Annie) Fite (daughter of Sarah Turner Denman and Henderson Wesley Fite). I don't believe that Nannie Daniels Fite marrying into the family would have qualified my grandfather to be granted land on the reservation, would it? Also, I have been trying to find out who the father was of James A. Smalley (James W. Smalley's father) and can't seem to. Would you have any information on the Smalley connection? Thanks!
Sandra Smalley Holik
