Gilbert Fite from The Fite Family book
Posted by: Mrs. Pat DeArman Fite Date: March 15, 1999 at 15:08:57
  of 1692

This is from the book The Fite Family by
Elizabeth S. Fite written in 1907. There
are many errors in this book, but it does
have good information also.

Anyway, here is what she says on Gilbert Fite
on p102.

"Gilbert Fite was presumably the son of Johannes Fite and his wife Catherine (do not
believe that this is true). he settled in NC about the same time as Peter, Leonard, John,
Conrad, and their sisters did, and there is little doubt that he was one of the brothers, all of whom were said to have gone
to NC in 1787 (again this is wrong information, not all of the above are children of Johannes. The Peter that she lists is the wrong Peter and Conrad was not a son of Johannes. I do not think that Gilbert ever went to NC, but went to KY).
Gilbert's great grandson Stephen D. Fite, who has supplied the data of this branch of the family, says Gilbert remained in NC only
2 years, when he and his brother Jacob moved over into KY. Jacob Fite soon disappeared and was thought to have been shot by Indians.
(I do not know who is this Jacob). Gilbert
Fite and a man named McCoy, were hunting together, and while lying down, drinking from a spring, Mccoy was shot and killed by an Indian; Gilbert was severly wounded in the elbow, but made good his escape. (Someone
sent me some information about Gilbert being
killed by Indians, right now I do not know
where I have put that information. Maybe
someone has this information and will post it.)

Anyway if any has more information on Gilbert, I hope that they will post it.

Pat
