John W. Fite b. ? d. apx 1853 m. 1815 Millie Cotterill I have a copy of John W’s will, and the only names in it were “Wm. M.” his son, his wife Millie, and his “minor children”. The will was proven in 1854 with James McCoy and George C. Moore as witnesses. In the book “The History of Brown County Ohio by Beers 1883” Biographies of: OP Fite (pg 184): “…...born in Nicholas Co., Ky., August 15, 1823.....He is a son of John W. and Millie (Cotterill) Fite, the former a native of Pennsylvania of German ancestry, and the latter of Kentucky, of Irish parentage…...” DW Fite (pg 184): “He is a son of John W. and Millie (Cotterill) Fite, natives of Pennsylvania and Kentucky. The former was in the American Army, and participated in its ignominious surrender at Detroit under Gen. Hull. In 1820, they left Kentucky and came to Brown County, Ohio, locating in Clark Township, where he resided till his death... Mrs. Fite still survives in her eighty-sixth year....” The 1840 Brown Co. census shows a William Fite as 30-40. Rueben Fight 50-60. John Fite Jr 40-50. Jacob Fite 20-30. John Fite 60-70. The book “Nicholas County Kentucky Property Tax Lists 1800 – 1811 by Carrie Eldridge 2004” shows; 1800 Gilbert Fite – Beaver watercourse below rd. (pg 4) and John Fite - Beaver watercourse below rd (pg 5). Notify Administrator about this message?
